High Dynamic Range (HDR)

What is HDR?
HDR stands for High Dynamic Range imaging, and it's an old photography practice recently introduced to camera phones like the iPhone and some Android devices (or with the use of special apps). You're on the right track  it's supposed to make your pictures look better, but it depends on when you use it. Here's a quick primer on how HDR works, and when you should—and shouldn't—turn it on.

How it Works.!!
HDR, as its name implies, is a method that aims to add more "dynamic range" to photographs, where dynamic range is the ratio of light to dark in a photograph. Instead of just taking one photo, HDR uses three photos, taken at different exposures. You can then use image editing software to put those three images together and highlight the best parts of each photo. In the case of HDR on smartphones, your phone does all the work for you—just take your picture and it will give out one regular photo and one HDR photo. The result is something that should look more like what your eyes see, rather than what your camera sees.

This is why, when you turn HDR mode on, your phone takes a little longer to take the photo. It's actually taking three pictures at a time, rather than just one. Check out the image above for an example.
HDR Sensors
More and more CMOS image sensors now have high dynamic range capability within the pixels themselves. Such pixels are intrinsically non-linear (by design) so that the wide dynamic range of the scene is non-linearly compressed into a smaller dynamic range electronic representation inside the pixel. Such sensors are used in extreme dynamic range applications like welding or automotive.
Some other sensors designed for use in security applications can automatically provide two or more images for each frame, with changing exposure. For example, a sensor for 30fps video will give out 60fps with the odd frames at a short exposure time and the even frames at a longer exposure time. Some of the sensor may even combine the two images on-chip so that a wider dynamic range without in-pixel compression is directly available to the user for display or processing.

Wireless Charging

Wireless charging (also known as "Inductive charging") uses a electromagnetic field to transfer energy between two objects. It is done by a charging station which sends energy through inductive coupling to an electronic device, which can use that energy to charge battery or run the device.

Wireless chargers usually use an induction coil to create an alternating electromagnetic field from a charging base.
Second induction coil is present in the portable device which takes the power from the electromagnetic field and converts it back into electric current to charge the battery.

Advantages
·         Protected connections – no corrosion when the electronics are all enclosed, away from water or oxygen in the atmosphere.
·         Safer for medical implants – for embedded medical devices, allows recharging/powering through the skin rather than having wires penetrate the skin, which would increase the risk of infection.
·         Durability – Without the need to constantly plug and unplug the device, there is significantly less wear and tear on the socket of the device and the attaching cable.
·         Non radiative energy transfer
·         Can be more convenient - no need for cables.

Disadvantage

·         Lower efficiency, waste heat – The main disadvantages of inductive charging are its lower efficiency and increased resistive heating in comparison to direct contact. Implementations using lower frequencies or older drive technologies charge more slowly and generate heat within most portable electronics.
·         Slower charging – due to the lower efficiency, devices can take longer to charge when supplied power is the same amount.

·         More expensive – Inductive charging also requires drive electronics and coils in both device and charger, increasing the complexity and cost of manufacturing.

YU Yutopia, ‘world’s most powerful smartphone

yu-yutopia

Micromax‘s subsidiary YU is planning to launch what it calls to be the most powerful smartphone ever. The smartphone, which will be called Yutopia, is codenamed ‘Project Achilles’ internally.
“The brief was to manufacture the world’s most powerful smartphone in India,” one of the sources working on the project told BGR India. The result is the YU Yutopia, which will be made in India. The smartphone is likely to be launched in time for Diwali, which means we could see its launch happening sometime next month.

The Yutopia could be the YU 5050, which was leaked via benchmark results earlier this month ahead of the YU Yunique launch. YU founder, Rahul Sharma, tweeted about the phone last week, calling it the real beast.

We don’t have clarity on YU Yutopia specifications, but leaked benchmark results suggest it would run on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 810 chipset with 4GB of RAM and 32GB of internal memory. The results also indicated a 5.2-inch display, 21-megapixel rear camera and 8-megapixel front-facing camera. There has been some confusion whether there will be two different variants — one with 3GB of RAM along with a 1080p display, and another with 4GB of RAM and a 2K display.
The source won’t reveal the specifications but just hinted that it would be the real flagship killer, taking a jab at the OnePlus 2. “This would be a no-compromise smartphone, with the best specifications and the highest benchmark rating,” the source says.

So far, YU has only launched sub-Rs 10,000 smartphones starting with the Yureka, followed by YuphoriaYureka Plus and most recently Yunique. The Yutopia would be the first flagship smartphone from the Micromax offshoot brand. With a claim like being the most powerful phone in the world, it remains to be seen whether YU can take on not just OnePlus and Xiaomi but even the likes of Samsung and HTC in the high-end smartphone space.

Top Reasons Why You Should Date a Programmer

Top Reasons Why You Should Date a Programmer
Do you have a date coming up with someone who writes code for a living? If so, are you wondering what kind of things you should talk about to impress him or her? Should you talk about code or other geeky things? Do programmers even want to talk about programming on a date?

Following are Top Reasons Why You Should Date a Programmer

1. Programmers are crazy smart. They know their stuff inside out, and are always learning new things. When they don’t know, they are keen to learn. They’ve adopted such a mentality since young and have thus amassed so much knowledge inside their brain, all ready to share with others.
2. They appreciate their relationships, and realize there won’t always be cake. (This is not a lie.)
3. Programmers are problem solvers; if something is wrong, they’ll work to fix it.
4. Computer science jobs are one of the highest paying ones in the world, in almost any part of the world. Your programmer date has a very high chance of begin significantly well off, so you are assured of a posh place for dinner, AND you don’t have to worry about pulling out your purse. Ever.
Mark Zuckerberg, one of the richest, most successful and powerful technopreneurs in the world. He was a programmer who changed the world through the Facebook Social network. If a successful partner is what you’re looking for, most programmers would make the cut.
5. Builds failing, code breaking; a great sense of humor is something every programmer has to have.
6. Looking for someone who’ll notice you? A good programmer is always paying attention to details.
7. Your programming date has spent a lot of time building stuff for his users. This involves understanding the users and knowing what they want and what they don’t like. And because of this, he’s probably attained a very, very high level of empathy. He’s totally going to get why you sometimes behave all weird and will think twice before doing something that might affect you.
Similar stuff: 6 Gifts for Programmers
8. Programmers are generally happy with their career — meaning less stress at home for date a programmer!
9. Mind games aren’t logical, so you won’t find programmers playing one with you. Unless, of course, it’s a video game.
10. Programmers are thinkers and learners. They’ll enjoy having an engaging, thoughtful conversations with you, and they’ll appreciate your perspective.
11. If all these reasons don’t have you convinced, this last one definitely will. All of his human skills make him perfect boyfriend material and his rational will make him a mature, and sensible partner. But the defining factor of a programmer is that they’re committed. The most talented programmers don’t necessarily have the highest paying jobs. They choose the projects that touche them at an emotional level, and they work with them, while they could be making much, much more money. Once he’s committed to you, no pretty girl can lure him away from you. He’s yours, he’s a keeper.
12. There’s never a NULL moment! Programmers are genuinely good people.
13. They are a passionate bunch who would give all their time and effort to the thing that has captured their hearts.
14. If a programmer can search for a semicolon through countless lines of code, it means they’ve mastered the art of patience.
15. Programmers might be the shy type, but they’re supremely straightforward. So if they’re feeling something, they’re bound to tell you on the face. While it might not be what you always want, you can trust this man to be truthful to you.
16. Computer not working? A programmer can probably figure out why, and then make it run faster!
17. Programmers aren’t hard to find. They’re always on the Internet and waiting to meet you.
18. Programmers are bound to have a long lasting relationship because he is experienced in handling differences, sending his codes for reviews, accepting his faults, most importantly never letting his ego affect his behavior. Because If you have ever gone through debugging, you would realize that even the most difficult relationship problems have trivial solutions.
19. One reason why programmers are sweet and sensitive is that they know when and how to give in to their partners. When you have a bad day and just want to complain to someone about everything that goes wrong in life, they’re here to listen to you. And even if you happen to be blaming them for the cause of everything gone wrong, they’d give in than risk raising an argument, just to make you feel better.

10 THINGS TO DO IF YOU FINISH EXAMS EARLY

if you’re lucky enough to have the chance, here’s a few things you could do. Take a break from revision and read the list. But be warned, the invigilators are on the look out for any related activity and you are advised to keep these actions outside of the examination hall.
1. Count down to the 15 minute warning
10 minutes to go
10 more minutes
10 minutes remaining
2. Play with your calculator. Try and make the following words
  • randomise (Without using the ‘RANDOM’ button)
  • costandexpenses
  • lady,gaga
  • little,chinese,seamstress
  • igcse,examinations
3. Attempt to talk to your friends without breaking malpractice rules
Hint: It’s impossible. And you shouldn’t even if you could
4. Manicure your hair and nails. Nothing beats the silence in the hall when it comes to discovering concentration and patience.
5. You know how everything you ever revise never actually gets tested in the exam, it’s always what you didn’t revise they seem to care about. Well what about putting all your ‘extra knowledge’ on ‘extra sheets’ for the examiner to read. You’ll probably still get a big red 0 and a U but at least they’ll have had to devote time and effort to marking your paper!
6. If you’re doing any of the above, you should start writing the letter to you parents explaining why you flunked. What else did you expect. You were bored enough with revision to read this. You might as well have expected it.
7. Think up our own list of 10 things to do if you finish exams early.
Disclaimer: This is not what happened and this is not how this list was created.
8. If you are short on revision time for the next exam, highlight the entire table. They tell you not to do it, but at least it would take time to clean up! In reality however, they’re most likely just to get the spare table out. If they do, it means you’ve wasted loads of time and gained no extra revision time at all! That’s the opportunity cost.
9. Ask for an extra sheet (note: DO NOT ASK FOR THE MARK SCHEME) and mark yourself. If you want, you could add little side-notes like “give candidates 3 marks for correct answer. See question 3 of May/June 2006 Mark Scheme” for the examiner to read.
10. Check your answers! How old and cliche… That’s why it makes the list (albeit at number 10)
